Amanirenas: the One-Eyed Queen Who Fought Rome Tooth and Nail (c.60 BCE - c.10 BCE)
Okay, for real - I know few of you read the footnotes, but there’s a TON of nuance to this, so please read the full entry here before penning notes of inaccuracies.
A lot happened to me this year, personally–including more things that aren’t even listed here. I’m so, so, so glad to be where I am now that I don’t have words for it. This comic doesn’t even attempt to convey the emotional side of my reality because when I thought about doing so, it was just too big, too much, I’d have never finished it! But I at least wanted to share some of my reality with others.
I had all my ties cut early in 2016, until I literally had nothing to lose. I gambled at a chance in a new city and won a few of my dreams. But more than that, I got a new start on who I am and how I treat myself. My life had great things in the past few years but I couldn’t enjoy them because, in essence, I wouldn’t let myself.
Anyway, thank you to everyone who played a part in the better half of my 2016! I hope you all are learning and growing and striving as well <3
Marguerite de Bressieux: Rapist Hunting Black Knight (15th century)
Please note: This entry is going up without the customary “poster” image, or footnotes – I will add them as soon as possible, but I’m getting yanked away by more book work, and this entry is late enough as is.
Also note: this wasn’t the entry described in the last hint. That one, a Tibetan woman, is next. It will take longer to do, and I wanted to get something up before I got waylaid by something unexpected again.
This version seemingly takes some liberties. Her uncle is in league with some shadow demon, there’s a talking dog, and her horse turns into this fiery magic flying creature…? I don’t know.
Nancy Wake: the White Mouse (1912-2011) – Part One
So I’m doing something a little different for this entry. Instead of doing this breezy info-comic style, I’m doing a full-on graphic novel-length comic on the life of Nancy Wake. I’ll be releasing it in installments, divided out into different chapters of her life, as I complete it.
As it stands, I plan for this to be the last RP entry I do, at least for a long while. I’ve been doing this for five years now – when I started, there was almost nobody else doing this sort of work. But now, if I stop for a bit, there will be others carrying the torch.
I don’t plan on just slinking off into the ether. There’s other projects I want to be doing, which I’ve been putting together (which explains the slow posting rate here). I’ll be announcing those near the completion of the Nancy Wake story.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you’ll enjoy Nancy’s story. It’s truly incredible.
Art notes and whatnot will be up later today or tomorrow – I still haven’t finished the poster image for this yet.
Starting off Day 2 of the Webcomic Library Con will be the Lettering Workshop. Shiza ( @shizamura), the creator of O Sarilho, and Emma, the creator of Honestly Not a Robot, will be showcasing what goes into putting words into a comic and how this little act can bring storytelling to a whole other level!
