Blackout City ( @blackoutcitycomic)

Created by  Kelpienet

Summary:  Coda Prosy may just be a police secretary, but when an officer gone rogue disappears, he’s determined to get to the bottom of it! Forming an uncertain alliance with ex-convict and eternal video game nerd, Liren Oh, Coda follows officer Merrigo down a path filled with underground bot battles, digital monsters, and cults to the old gods.

Librarian’s Commentary:

  • Pastel + Sifi = 10/10 great aesthetic
  • Oh so much mystery with the various disappearances. It will be fun seeing what happened to all of them!
  • Coda is such a nerd but is passionate in all the right ways even though it can get him in all the wrong places. It’s a fun personality to see in this plot
  • Imma be so intrigued to see Blackout’s backstory. He seems like such an interesting character

Granted ( @grantedcomic) (Tapastic)

Created by Sam ( @charminglyantiquated)

Summary:  Lee finds a genie in her phone - a genie with a hidden agenda and the sunny personality of a pit viper. In very short order she’s stuck in a new world, recruited by a runaway princess staging a coup d'etat, and desperately trying to lie her way into the role of a hero.

Librarian’s Commentary:

  • I love how Lee used her wishes! First making sure she would get entirely screwed over by the Genie and then looking for an adventure!
  • The Princess is wonderful~ she smart and at times brash, looking for the best solutions, even if they aren’t entirely ideal. I can’t wait to see her get more developed!
  • Comics that make fun of certain tropes in media by using them are always so much fun to read, and this story definitely delivers
  • The fact that people think Lee is a fairy is hilarious to me, while also making sense with the lore.

SPEJS ( @spejscomic) (Tapastic) (Site)

Created by Jenny Hannula ( @jennulator)

Summary: SPEJS is a sci-fi adventure comic about three bounty hunters and a pilot. Founded by an elite hacker who was bored with life and accompanied by a tough pangee with the power to bend energy, a grumpy half-seri sniper and a seri country boy who can drive pretty much any 4+ wheeled vehicle available. Together they form the Super professional Elite Justice Squad (SPEJS) and will take on any mission that’s fun or well-paying enough, preferably both!

Librarian’s Commentary:

  • Science fiction bounty hunters? Sign me up!
  • Gav is a gift. He’s hella smart but also a bit on the goofy side!
  • I love how the characters are drawn! No one has the same body type and that just makes me really happy!
  • Swagata is beautiful and badass! She seriously built that tech? So cool! I’m totally stoked to see what happens next!

Shaderunners ( @shaderunnerscomic) (Tapastic)

Created by Capp ( @capitalette) and Lin ( @linkeepsitreal)

Summary: A thousand years ago, the last colour in the world faded to grey. Now, after the great archaeological discovery of Queen Sorizahana’s shade-stocked tomb, it stands ready to enter the world again. Ironwell City will become the birthplace of the burgeoning colour industry, where colour is pumped out of factories, poured into perfumed bottles and sold at exorbitant prices to those wealthy enough to afford the luxury. At least, that’s the plan according to the Five Financiers of the Sorizahana excavation. One part Prohibition fantasy, one part Robin Hood, and a whole lot of epic heist,Shaderunners follows a group of ragtag bootleggers and bohemians who band together in an effort to steal colour from the wealthy echelons of Ironwell’s high society. Among them: a philosopher, a puppeteer, a gutter rat, an opera singer, a naval officer and a hopeless romantic. Together, they run The Glass Dial, former watch shop and future night club, where all the house drinks run red.Speak easy, pal, ‘cause the road to ruin is paved with good intentions.

Librarian’s Commentary:

  • I love how color is used as both a plot device, an important part of the world building, and its use in the aesthetic in the comic as a whole. It’s so cool!
  • I really like the 20s feel to the story. It’s always interesting when creators use past styles as a base for their fantasies. It makes the world it’s created in a little more tangible and all the more addicting to read!
  • Dom and Giviny’s relationship is wonderful. I enjoy how they’re able to be really open and relaxed about what they want out of their relationship and both parties are satisfied. It feels like with those types of relaxed relationships there is usually a pressure to either drop it and make it purely platonic or one or both desire a more intense relationship. It pleases me to no end to see neither after they deepen their relationship. I hope it stays this way!
  • The announcer panels are a gift. Both as a recap of what happened and it adds to the 20s style!

Rechargable ( @rechargeablecomic) (Tapastic) (Warning: Drugs and Alcohol)

Created by  Bilvy Jane ( @bilvyy) (Site) (Patreon)

Summary: The Immortals are an Australian crew of criminals, doing their best to get by in the underbelly of New Portland. The year is 2100, and the intentions are very dubious.

Librarian’s Commentary:

  • The hairstyles are amazing. So colorful, so cute, so detailed, wowie~
  • I love the family dynamics between The Immortals. It’s both funny and relatable on some level
  • Criminal underworld+ sifi+family dynamics= really fun read and super cool world and character building.
  • I’ve never understood the trope of the current S.O. has to be enemies with the Ex. Thankfully that isn’t a thing with this comic! Loving me some S.O/Ex friendship action with a healthy dynamic and communication all around!
