1 year ago on October 7th we launched Novae! We started with just a cover and now we have 3 chapters and 111 pages! The story is coming to a mini climax but will soon spiral into a much greater arc.
We can’t believe all the support that we’ve received since the launch. All the shout-outs, the wonderful thoughtful and funny comments, reviews, and all the beautiful gift/fan art and music. We couldn’t be happier as creators, our hearts have been thoroughly warmed.
Here’s to another year! We’re so excited for whats to come this year.
Summary: It is 17th century France, the age of discovery and scientific revolution. Sulvain, a mysterious traveler, is absorbed in the Parisian acedemic scene. Through his friendship with the renowned Christiaan Huygens, Sulvain has the chance to study the latest discoveries of the distant cosmos. Deep in the library of Academy of Sciences, however, our traveler will meet Huygen’s apprentice– Raziol Quamar– who will truly spark new lights in Sulvain’s universe. But as the two grow closer, trouble brews in the city.
Librarian’s Commentary:
The little details in the art are really cool! I love how things like Sullivan’s Cape, buttons, and even the books have a little bit of detail that makes the style really stand out!
I love that the main characters study Astronomy! It’s such an interesting subject that I don’t usually see in comics.
It’s also historical fiction. Always a fun time watching to see all the little things we know of the time period show in someone writing. I’ll be happy watch!
This is also a romantic fiction piece. I’m exited to see how romance blooms between characters and how it’s handled in the historical context!
Summary: Chloe Ritter was your ordinary queer, trans woman in Cream City. But when she suffers a traumatic experience at the hands of an old acquaintance, she discovers she has extraordinary abilities. With the help of her girlfriend, she dons a mask and begins protecting Cream City as The Blue Valkyrie. But it’s not easy to be a superhero: when community activists and ruthless businessmen go head to head, Chloe will have to discover what kind of hero the world truly needs.
Librarian’s Commentary:
I love how confident Chloe is in who she is as a person. From being trans to having super powers, she unashamedly herself and I feel like it’s really something inspiring and heart warming to see!
I live for relationships with great communication and support. Something about that is so comforting and inspiring to see.
She and her girlfriend met in therapy!!! they’ve both been in therapy!! This fact makes me so happy!!
I am honestly so surprised I haven’t heard of this comic sooner?? It has so many great things going for it and I’m thrilled to now have it in my library and I hope other people will read and fall in love with it like I have!
Summary: This rom-com asks the big questions- like what would happen if two slice of life stories were happening at the same school?
Librarian’s Commentary:
I love the idea of taking 2 classic slice of life plot tropes and having them clash together! It’s a fun twist while also being very original.
Mamo and Daisuke’s interactions are golden. They’re both so different but also kind of have the same stubbornness and backbone. Also they have greatest case of mistaken identity I have ever seen.
I also give a shot out to Tuskino cause she’s one of the few plus sized love interests I’ve seen and she’s absolutely adorable!
The faces and body movents in this comic are so expressive! It’s not extremely exaggerated, but they’re still funny and show such a wide range of emotion!
Summary:
It’s 1852, and Clara Adams has had her future planned out for her: find and marry a proper young man, then settle in for a life of quiet obedience and domestic bliss. She’s resigned to her fate, until a bout of curiosity leads to her untimely murder, and resurrection, at the hands of monsters that she’d never dreamed might be more than fictional. Death brings Clara unexpected freedom, along with new dangers and the sudden weight of responsibility. Thrust into unlife with no way back, Clara has to learn quickly, for her unique gift might tip the scales in the secret war against her murderer for control of all London!
Librarian’s Commentary:
Heck yeah Ace/Aro protagonist where their orientation serves a purpose in the story!
I’m not too big on the idea of a heirarchy determined by who you are and are not attracted to, but I do give points for a very creative idea. I’m really hoping the hierarchy gets completely smashed to bits by the end
Watching Clara try to learn how to essentially flirt is both funny and relatable.
Also I love the outfit designs! they’re all so pretty and the colors always compliment the character’s so well!
Summary: Dragondove is not about destiny or gun fights, but choices and mistakes, and the struggle of determining the right roads to take. Dragons wander the wasteland, seeking the souls of sinners, or so they say. A girl called Lucky doesn’t believe that’s the whole story, so she skips town, looking to wrangle herself some adventure, mystery, and a dragon of her own. This fantasy-western comic explores mystical creatures, exotic landscapes, and magical artifacts while maintaining an action-adventure theme. Focusing primarily on LGBTQ characters, Dragondove aims to engage the tried and true fantasy tropes without all the usual baggage.
Librarian’s Commentary:
Western themed comic about dragons???? Sign me up!
I love all the in depth explaining of the world building and lore. It’s one of my favorite things in comics to learn more about the context of the world the characters live in!
I love how the characters grow and develop and yet I am still left with so many questions that lead to me watching for every update to learn more.
Tigertale is such a badass person??? they’re so cool and mysterious. I can’t wait to learn more about them as a character. Hoping to get some more backstory!
Did I miss anything in my list? Have a masterlist you wanna see? Just wanna say hi? Send me an ask here!
