In honor of Nonbinary Day this Saturday (7/14/18) I’m doing a masterpost highlighting nonbinary main characters. So far I have a lineup featuring 26 awesome comics and I’m always looking for more!

Summary: Acethexis is an action/drama series about a girl and an illegal android who are swept up into a life of crime in the eyes of their government.
Summary: Its hard to get accepted in highschool (this school takes place in the Netherlands!), Especially when you start in your first year with rainbow hair. Arcus has a hard time fitting in. Iris, Maud and Gale slowly start to play a bigger roll in his life but not only for the good reasons.
Summary: Wynn is struggling to survive when the Immortal Swigne gives Wynn their Blessing. The only explanation Swigne gives is that Wynn now has “Power”. Wynn meets people Blessed by other Immortals that can help guide them. In searching for knowledge of their new gift Wynn finds love, friendship and a more full sense of self identity. Wynn learns that being Blessed is a gift with a price tag of responsibilities and constant hunger attached, but the pay off is fantastic strength and the resources they’ll need to thrive in the world they live in. As long as Wynn keeps overcoming the challenges their new status brings them.
Summary: A webcomic that takes place in a world destroyed by the Gods, following the journey of a homeless trio who takes on a job to help two brothers from a prestigious family hunt down an infamous terrorist group, Butterfly Blue.
Summary: Charity Case is about Julien, a sheltered young musician who - finding himself without financial support - has to try and navigate a life he’s woefully unprepared for. Its about found families, queer poly romance, and music!
Summary: In 2017, the crew of the interstellar ship ‘Odysseus’ went into deep sleep for their mission of finding other life in the galaxy. Three years later, Earth made first contact.Kay Chalabi, Nike Marmeladov, and Latoya Monroe knew that they were signing up for a mission that probably meant they would never return to Earth. When awakened from deep sleep centuries early they find themselves in an alien space in more ways than one. Earth is dead, and there are few survivors.But those survivors do include Samira Doshi, Captain of the Nautillus, a space pirate ship manned by a crew of Earthers and aliens alike– her right hand man Vee, left hand bot Charli, the worm doctor Doctor Worm, Fuzz, a tiny fuzzy angry mechanic, and Tachs, a four-armed six-eyed literal parasite. All of them find themselves lost, isolated, and apart from their own species, hoping to find something a bit more like home, and maybe unravel the secrets of the universe on the way.
Summary: Trigger Elliot is a bounty hunter who travels around the galaxy with his not-so-fully-licensed-and-technically-illegal-hunting-partner Vahn Gavotte. They’re lousy at what they do and often resort to petty tactics just to get their bounty, This is their life.Their home planet, June7, is a world rebuilding itself from an inexplicable catastrophic phenomenon that destroyed 75% of the planet’s surface. It has been 5 years since the destruction of June7 and the planet now thrives on the transient and growing population of bounty hunters. Trigger and Vahn’s routine changes when an ambiguous huge bounty surfaces; an alleged bounty hunter killer named the “ghost” with frightening abilities and unknown motive. When Trigger’s past catches up with him, there begins a strain on him and Vahn’s hunting dynamic, forcing them to become further involved in chasing the elusive and unpredictable ghost.
Summary: Gutless is a fantasy story about a genderless mechanical knight brought to life by a witch princess, set in a magical manifestation of North America called the Realm of the Seven Stars.
Summary: Timothy Tell work as a detective, for a secret agency called “RIMAD”. He gets called into work, where he’s told to bring in Samuel Qruint or at least locate Sam’s position.
Summary: Nokia is a young adult, living on a space station New Rauma. Nokia has just gotten their immortality and the best use they can come up with it is to browse the old internet all day long without eating or sleeping and not having to worry about dying of hunger. After three weeks of old internet Nokia’s parents decide they’ve had enough.
Summary:Two freelance demon summoners navigate relationships, difficult clients, gender, and the tension of plying their trade in a world that has a complicated history with demons, while a succubus decides to go celibate for ethical reasons.
Summary: Justin Hubbell is a trans non binary cartoonist born and raised in Upstate New York (and smug about it). They make comics that unpack social constructs using autobiography and humor if possible.
Summary: Lucretia von Eldritch leaves their life behind looking for fulfillment. Instead they find Edita, a disgruntled tavern maid hungry for a better life, her adoptive children Erowid and Gishbar, and many others all with their own ulterior motives.

Summary: Meriel’s Law is a short urban fantasy comic about a witch that’s been suffering through some bad luck for a while and the book and magazine door to door seller who promises to infinitely improve her life by selling her, well, anything really. It is a story about forgiveness, purpose, change and people moving. It features an exclusively queer cast and their identities are not the center of conflict. It’s written and illustrated by Kath Kirkegaard, aka illuia, and it’s their first published comic.
Summary: Mir is the story of the witch’s mirror from Snow White, trapped up in a tower and brought to life by a magic spell. When the Witch asks for the fairest in the land, Mir can’t answer, and the witch decides that obviously the solution to this problem is to give Mir a body and send them out into the world.
Never Satisfied (Hiveworks) (Warning: Body Horror, Violence)
Summary: Never Satisfied is an on-going webcomic about Lucy Marlowe, a magician’s apprentice competing against other apprentices for an important magical government position, dealing with issues of class differences and how hard it can be to understand others.
Nyx of the Overworld (Tapas) (Webtoons) (Warning: Violence)
Summary: Fantasy adventure comics feat. Nyx, a kinda-magical loot-obsessed half-human half-something on a mum-saving quest that’s mysteriously similar to a videogame. Ancient artefacts of great power, useless sidekicks, rad swords, a gathering darkness and sweet magic powers await.
Summary: How far would you travel for ice cream? Three teens travel the galaxy in search of weird and wonderful new flavours to try and save their cafe from going bust. Join Pascal, a chronic over-thinker, Vi, a non-binary optimist, and Elodie, a French girl with selective mutism, as their adventures take them through trials, tribulations, and romance!

Summary: Say Something follows the life of Buddy, a young teenager burdened by a demon. The demon is summoned from Buddy’s throat and eats whomever they talk to. They try to lead an average life, but it’s difficult when such a dangerous presence threatens to kill those you love.
Summary: Skyvein is a fantasy/sci-fi webcomic following the perilous adventures of our heroes (reluctant and otherwise) in a world where magick is regulated and everyone lives on islands in a sea of toxic clouds.

SUPERPOSE takes place in the seaside tourist town, Port City. Here is Roman Labs, an aerospace company which fell into obscurity following the Space Race, and clings to the coattails of the 1980s tech boom. SUPERPOSE stars Rafael (recent high school grad, emotional labourer, stole a dog) Royal (college dropout with a dream to change the world in a major way), and friends like Kasra al-Ridha (unsung and bitter astrophysicist) in this blockbuster of summer 198X. Each dreaming of something better than what they’ve got, they become more firmly entangled, setting out to manipulate the very physics of reality in order to change it for the better.

Summary: In the future when robots live together with humans, it’s hard to imagine anything could ever go wrong. But when the mechanical replacement parts of random humans start taking them over and “glitching” them out, everyone in town is lost as to what should be done.
That is until a small group of five robots who work at a back-alley bar accidentally step up to take on the mystery of why this is happening to innocent people.
Armed with bad attitudes and broken hearts, how far can this band of “Bar Bots” go before they have to confront their own problems? Can they help each other out of the holes they’ve dug themselves- or are the Bar Bots out of time?

Once he sobers up and realises the situation, Apollo returns to confirm this person is indeed who he thinks they are, at least that’s what he hopes. They have to be, right?! Apollo begins desperately trying to rekindle the friendship which was ruined so long ago, being the bestest best friend ever! Unfortunately this person’s life is more complicate than he can ever imagine.
Will Apollo be able to better this person’s life, as well as fix his own destructive lifestyle habits, and avoid repeating past mistakes?
Using the words of LGBT+ people from around the world, PLUS is a project in which people can share themselves, along with their fears and hopes for the future.
Summary: Being legally dead is causing Razi some problems, and xer only chance of escape from bureaucratic limbo will involve a dangerous trek through wolfcat territory. Meanwhile, Halvanylila is supposed to be learning to hunt and fight, but it’s hard to concentrate when there are fascinating plants to be scienced at.Now they’re both lost in the middle of nowhere, and they’ll need each other’s help and unique expertise to find their way out.One problem: those wolfcats. Oh, wait, and a troupe of bandits? Two problems. But hey, as long as nothing else goes wrong …

HEARTWOOD: Non-binary Tales of Sylvan Fantasy is the first ever non-binary comics anthology, made entirely by cartoonists who identify as a non-binary gender! The book is 250+ pages long, B&W interior, and features 21 young-adult stories.
Across time and cultures, humanity has spun tales about the forest: tales of caution, adventure, rites of passage, and discovery. Some of those stories persist as the folklore and fairy tales that delight our imaginations today, and the forest remains a symbol for facing the unknown and emerging transformed.
This anthology is for everyone who’s walked through the undergrowth, in the silence of nature, and longed for an adventure of their own to unfold. These stories of modern-day sylvan fantasy showcase some of the best non-binary cartoonists of our day, guiding characters like us into the woods and back again.

Summary: Rain is a slice-of-life/comedy/drama that follows the life of a teenage transgender girl named Rain, as she attempts to go through her senior year in high school identifying only as a woman. Along the way, she makes friends with an eclectic bunch of people of varying orientations and gender identities. See their stories filled with silly humor, teenage angst, occasional adult angst, copious amounts of love triangles, mockery of product names, complex relationships, tons and tons of dialogue, and sometimes a cute, little bunny.
Summary: Rife with nuns, Witches, magick, werewolves, cats, giant robot mechas, and blue angels who pop out of toilets to announce approaching apocalypses, Sister Claire is a webcomic about a young woman who leaves her quiet abbey to undergo a rigorous journey across a monster-riddled wilderness.

13-19th November is Transgender Awareness week! Non binary is about how there’s more to life than just male and female and lots of people on the transgender spectrum don’t fit in either category. Non binary is another umbrella term like Genderqueer for people who like to mix things up.

“Starsend” is the third of three short comics in a collection of positive and uplifting genderqueer comics that will be available for purchase in September.
Starsend is focused on an agender character coming to terms with their identity on Earth. Shout out to sinistraal who helped me formulate the initial concept behind Starsend.

Summary: ChaosLife is a semi-autobiographical comic. It focuses on a queer relationship between A. Stiffler and K. Copeland, who create the comic! It also delves into politics, GSM issues, mental health, pop culture, cats and other randomness. Since its debut in 2011, ChaosLife has been featured in numerous publications, including The Washington Post, The Discovery Channel’s Official Blog, The Australian Broadcasting Company, AutoStraddle, WIRED, Neatorama and MSN Japan, among many other online and real-world venues.ChaosLife updates once a week, at least!

Summary: Les Normaux follows the life of a bunch of supernatural beings living in Paris after a human wizard named Sebastien moved to the city. They each tell their own side of the story in their respective diaries.
