See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Ok so I think I’m going to revamp the Webcomic Library and move onto a completely different space. I’ve been doing my links work through google spreadsheets for years and it’s served me well, but I know it’s not the most user friendly interface for how I use it. I’ve wanted to get a better sorting system, but I’ve never been able to until I started playing around with Tagpacker. I know LGBT Comics uses it for their sorting system and I have been playing around with it today and have fallen in love with it for a few reasons:

  • Easy to set up. I’ve been playing around with the structure so everything is organized just how I want it. I can’t quite get a few pieces of how I have it set up on the original webcomic library to work with the set up because it does not allow for sub tag categories, but it’s pretty close. Close enough I can be ok with the layout.
  • Tagpacker Extension. There’s an extension that allows me to add on tags and links directly to the Library without needing to backtrack and hassle to both put a link on my library and wrestle to edit where comics are listed and the content warnings. This makes things much more efficient and easier for library maintenance. Plus the organization accuracy should be greatly improved as well.
  • Cross Referencing. You can pick multiple tags and narrow down what you want to read. This makes it both easier to refind a comic for me and for you all to find a comic you really want to read!
  • Search option. On top of being able to find a comic by category, you can actually look up a comic by name.
  • Masterpost Accessibility. If it works correctly this should help me a LOT with making my masterposts. I currently have an entirely different Spreadsheet specifically for keeping track of masterpost links. Set up correctly I should be able to find the comics I need for a masterpost and get them out faster than ever!
  • Summaries and Pictures! The links will actually include both picture icons and summaries, making it easier to judge if a comic is up your alley.

Overall it’s both more efficient for me to keep updated and more user friendly than using spreadsheets. The main downside to this is that moving all the comics I have currently listed is going to take time. Like a lot of time. I’m encroaching on about 700 comics in my current library and I’ll probably have to go through and reresearch every single one. I’ll also be adding new categories that were never included in the original, such as alternate languages, and Information on the main character(s). I’m also going to have to make my own summaries and icons for some comics, which I will admit I don’t want to do, but I desire to give every comic I read the best chance it has so I will do everything in my power to make that possible.

It’s going to take a while to get the new library fully set up, but at the end of the day I think it will be worth it. I’m hoping this will make it all the more accessible to others so they too can find and support webcomics!
