Hey kids, COLOR!
While the strip is generally black and white, this gag just SCREAMED for color. I’ll likely put this on the inside front cover of the printed issue so the color will be retained for print. As for the content itself, the core idea is pretty straightforward: Transgender folks live our lives JUST LIKE YOU!

This was a response to some folks asking why the strip hasn’t centered on my being Trans as much as it did in the earlier strips. And while this answer is focused on visual comedy and a somewhat simplified response, it’s pretty much why.
In the early days of the strip, I was a year into my transition. In face, ‘Finding Dee’ premiered on the 1st Anniversary of my coming out. Since then, I’ve gotten fairly comfortable in my day-to-day life and found that the only time my being transgender is really an issue, is when someone gives me shit about it or I check the news. Otherwise, I really just am a person going about her life.
Heidi and I make a point to just live our lives. I worked VERY hard after coming out to KEEP living my life as if, in many ways, nothing had changed. We kept going to Karaoke and going to the movies and doing all the things we always did. I refused to shut myself off from the world and I still do. I may be an anxiety-riddled mess, but I refuse to allow that to make me stop living my life. This was a funny way to express that idea.
Also, thanks to DANA SIMPSON of “Pheobe and her Unicorn” fame, for informing me that a winged Unicorn is, in fact, called an ‘Alicorn’. I knew that when scripting this strip, but thought the description used was funnier than if I had gotten it right. lol
13-19th November is Transgender Awareness week! This last comic is about highlighting the fact that not all trans people get ‘the surgery’ (whatever that even means) and everyone has a different approach.
We talk about gender dysphoria and being unhappy a lot with trans issues, so I wanted to end this week on a positive note with gender euphoria.
(I could only do a couple of the monsters from the book this week, if you want to read more information then you can grab a copy here: https://tinyurl.com/MinorityMonsterBook)
It honestly feels like this is going to happen some days. I lose a TON of hair in the shower and when I brush my hair. But it only seems to get thicker and more brush-resistant as time goes by. I half expect it to become sentient and start fighting back against my attempts to tame it soon.
Also, for my fellow cartooning snobs, this strip is the first I’ve drawn for FINDING DEE that’s completely digital. I’ve been playing around with new photoshop brushes and like the results, so far.

A new strip for 2/1/17 showcasing the ever present stress of the dreaded #5oclockshadow that plagues me daily.
I’m like Nixon, I swear. It never goes away no matter how closely I try and shave it. But I’m also too regularly broke for #electrolysis or #lazerhairremoval

That guy is Zargnon Lix, Intergalactic Criminal and Founder of Smugglers Against Jugglers.
Man this comic really blew up.
The red four-armed lady’s name is Space Dread. She is trans and she wanted to be a juggler but grew up to be a bounty hunter/assassin instead.
Zargnon Lix is (was?) the guy wearing the I Hate Juggling shirt. He was a wanted criminal who also happened to hate juggling. He’s dead now.

This is good and pure!!! Trans positive manga is so good!!
Yes, this is true. Transgender women DO get periods. Monthly bouts of the hormones in our bodies running amok and causing all the symptoms short of the actual ejection of blood from a uterus. Cramps, mood swings, etc. It happens. Look it up. lol
Heidi and I have determined that I become an emotional train wreck around the end of each month. And while my doctor warned me that the hormones would affect my emotions, I DID have to find out that it would happen PERIODICALLY because of a PERIOD. lol
And I now have a sneaking suspicion that this strip and my commentary will be bringing some trolls out of the woodwork. We shall see.
