I also make these webcomics!
But I’m A Cat Person:
Two ordinary graduates adopt a puppy…which turns out to be a magical
shapeshifting battle monster. Now one of them is involved in a
soul-binding ownership contract, rich and powerful people are lurking
around looking to challenge them, and they still can’t find any companies that are hiring.
Featuring adventure, politics, magic, and lesbians. Combines the
struggle of modern-day underemployed geeky millennials with the
ethical dilemmas that you
normally try not to think about while playing Pokémon.
Leif & Thorn:
Sparkly queer bilingual fantasy comedy. Dragonslaying hero Thorn Estragon and his team of
loyal knights are assigned to guard a foreign embassy;
Leif works there as a gardener, serving his
native Sønheim in order to pay off a mysterious debt. Thorn doesn’t
speak Leif’s language too well when they first meet — but he’s about to
find a lot of reasons to learn.
Featuring trauma recovery,
slow-burn romance, cross-cultural communication, and trying to pick the
perfect song for karaoke night.
Both comics are hosted with SiteGround. If you like the way the sites look, and you happen to be looking for a place to independently host a comic…please sign up through this link so I’ll get credit for referring you!
Leif is a gardener, serving his native Sønheim at a foreign embassy. Thorn is a Knight of Ceannis who got severely burned while dragonslaying, and was rewarded with a “cushy” job guarding the embassy gates. Thorn doesn’t speak Leif’s language too well at first — but as they get to know each other, he finds a lot of reasons to learn.
Possible triggers and if the comic is nsfw
Worksafe (there is a separate site for NSFW content). References to sensitive content include sexual assault, physical trauma, flashbacks, claustrophobia, stalking, and character death. Individual storylines have warnings available.
All the kinds. All of them. This post has pictures. The title characters are a budding m/m romance, one of them has two moms, there are a bunch of other same-sex couples, there’s an agender knight, a trans woman assassin, a trans man engineer with a husband, a grumpy trans goth boy, a bunch of queer butch women with crossbows, reincarnations with gender issues, and more.
Do you have any characters with physical or mental disabilities? If so, what kind?
Thorn has PTSD and burn scarring that limits his arm movement. Other cast members show up with albinism, autism, bipolar disorder, hallucinations, limb amputations, limb malformation, mutism, and vitiligo, to name a few.
Does your comic come in any other language other than English?
Psst, you should add Leif & Thorn to the "romance webcomics with characters of color" list! It's a cross-cultural fantasy comedy about Thorn, a knight who guards a foreign country's embassy, and Leif, the gardener he ends up falling in love with. Thorn doesn't speak the language too well at first, but he grows more fluently bilingual as they get closer.
Leif & Thorn is a cross-cultural fantasy comedy about trauma, recovery, vampires, magical girls, and falling in love across a language barrier.
What’s the story? Thorn is a classic fantasy knight – has a magic sword, killed a dragon, all that good stuff – but now he has PTSD, and actual burn scars, and doesn’t do well at barbecues. He and his team get assigned to guard the embassy of a country that’s basically Fantasy Scandinavia – which is where he meets Leif, a gardener working to pay off a mysterious debt.
Thorn doesn’t speak Leif’s language too well when they first meet — but he’s about to find a lot of reasons to learn.
They’re the heart of an increasingly-broad ensemble of characters, all
facing their own struggles to communicate across cultural boundaries,
deal with traumas and scars, use magic for practical solutions, and pick
the perfect song for karaoke night.
It’s a fantasy world with multicultural influences and a modern sensibility. (They have social media! And democratically-elected leaders! And same-sex marriage!)
Think Discworld if it had the internet, and more queer/trans people. Or Steven Universe with realistic language barriers, and vampires instead of alien rocks. Or Utena if the characters were adults with access to therapy.
So it’s pretty gay? Heck yes.
There’s lots of same-sex romance, a whole spread of casually-accepted trans people, characters who are happily poly and characters who are happily single, and no gendered limits on how they can dress or what they can do.
Which doesn’t mean it’s some kind of conflict-free social-justice paradise. This world still has problems! (Potion-smuggling, magical stalkers, cultural clashes, and “everything about Leif’s legal status” come to mind.)
Just not these problems.
When does it update? Daily! Sunday strips can be AUs, info pages, and other bonus strips. Monday-Friday are classic newspaper-style strips in the main storyline. Saturdays are for bonus art.
How long is it? It’s been running since late 2015, and never taken a hiatus, so…that long.
