Holy crap. Witchy is GOOD.

I genuinely don’t know what possessed me to read the prologue pages of Witchy some time ago… and decide to put off reading it. It’s such a small piece of the story, and then the story gets /so good/ that I actually sat wondering, part way through, why I had ever put off reading it. For those wondering, here’s the part that made me turn around and say, ‘holy cow, Witchy is GOOD’:

You’re instantly completely endeared to Prill, and so is the protagonist Nyneve, making for their first real heart to heart. And that connection spurred me onward in a way that I couldn’t put down.
Witchy is about a world where magic is in the hair. Specifically, hair length. But there is such a thing as hair that is too long, which Nyneve learns the hard way when her father is killed for it. The experience is formative, and thus begins Nyneve’s journey to avoid, well, basically everything to do with her long hair.
Which of course backfires spectacularly, but you’ll have to read Witchy to see.
