Librarian’s Commentary:
The little details in the art are really cool! I love how things like Sullivan’s Cape, buttons, and even the books have a little bit of detail that makes the style really stand out!
I love that the main characters study Astronomy! It’s such an interesting subject that I don’t usually see in comics.
It’s also historical fiction. Always a fun time watching to see all the little things we know of the time period show in someone writing. I’ll be happy watch!
This is also a romantic fiction piece. I’m exited to see how romance blooms between characters and how it’s handled in the historical context!
Summary: Chloe Ritter was your ordinary queer, trans woman in Cream City. But when she suffers a traumatic experience at the hands of an old acquaintance, she discovers she has extraordinary abilities. With the help of her girlfriend, she dons a mask and begins protecting Cream City as The Blue Valkyrie. But it’s not easy to be a superhero: when community activists and ruthless businessmen go head to head, Chloe will have to discover what kind of hero the world truly needs.
Librarian’s Commentary:
I love how confident Chloe is in who she is as a person. From being trans to having super powers, she unashamedly herself and I feel like it’s really something inspiring and heart warming to see!
I live for relationships with great communication and support. Something about that is so comforting and inspiring to see.
She and her girlfriend met in therapy!!! they’ve both been in therapy!! This fact makes me so happy!!
I am honestly so surprised I haven’t heard of this comic sooner?? It has so many great things going for it and I’m thrilled to now have it in my library and I hope other people will read and fall in love with it like I have!
Summary: This rom-com asks the big questions- like what would happen if two slice of life stories were happening at the same school?
Librarian’s Commentary:
I love the idea of taking 2 classic slice of life plot tropes and having them clash together! It’s a fun twist while also being very original.
Mamo and Daisuke’s interactions are golden. They’re both so different but also kind of have the same stubbornness and backbone. Also they have greatest case of mistaken identity I have ever seen.
I also give a shot out to Tuskino cause she’s one of the few plus sized love interests I’ve seen and she’s absolutely adorable!
The faces and body movents in this comic are so expressive! It’s not extremely exaggerated, but they’re still funny and show such a wide range of emotion!
Summary:
It’s 1852, and Clara Adams has had her future planned out for her: find and marry a proper young man, then settle in for a life of quiet obedience and domestic bliss. She’s resigned to her fate, until a bout of curiosity leads to her untimely murder, and resurrection, at the hands of monsters that she’d never dreamed might be more than fictional. Death brings Clara unexpected freedom, along with new dangers and the sudden weight of responsibility. Thrust into unlife with no way back, Clara has to learn quickly, for her unique gift might tip the scales in the secret war against her murderer for control of all London!
Librarian’s Commentary:
Heck yeah Ace/Aro protagonist where their orientation serves a purpose in the story!
I’m not too big on the idea of a heirarchy determined by who you are and are not attracted to, but I do give points for a very creative idea. I’m really hoping the hierarchy gets completely smashed to bits by the end
Watching Clara try to learn how to essentially flirt is both funny and relatable.
Also I love the outfit designs! they’re all so pretty and the colors always compliment the character’s so well!

Focusing primarily on LGBTQ characters, Dragondove aims to engage the tried and true fantasy tropes without all the usual baggage.
Librarian’s Commentary:
Western themed comic about dragons???? Sign me up!
I love all the in depth explaining of the world building and lore. It’s one of my favorite things in comics to learn more about the context of the world the characters live in!
I love how the characters grow and develop and yet I am still left with so many questions that lead to me watching for every update to learn more.
Tigertale is such a badass person??? they’re so cool and mysterious. I can’t wait to learn more about them as a character. Hoping to get some more backstory!

Summary: Finn gets a job working at The Costume Shop, a haunted Halloween store run by a talking skeleton. With dark forces on their way, this is no ordinary day at work.
Librarian’s Commentary:
The idea of having costumes as monsters with a desire to be worn is so cool!
Can be both terrifying and really funny!
Love the costume designs! Both classic and original~
I’m really intrested in learning more about Franklin. So much of the comic revolves around his actions. It will be a lot of fun seeing him develop, and thus the story as a whole!
Written by
Rob Zwetsloot and Illustrated by Cherry ( @cherryparty) (Site)
Summary: Haven’t you ever felt lonely? When you live in the middle of nowhere, away from your friends, wouldn’t you want something to change? “Wish upon a star and maybe something will.”

The artstyle is so cute! I love the colors used, so vibrant but easy on the eyes, plus the character design is absolutely lovely!
Cute enthusiastic alien who really really wants to learn about earth culture= really cute!
The fact that Star has made a home in Zoe’s sock drawer is very amusing to me.
Overall a cute and lighthearted comic so far and a wonderful addition to my library!
Summary:
Sleepless Domain is a comic about an isolated city in the middle of a dangerous world filled with monsters. During the day, the city is perfectly safe. At night, however, the populace locks themselves inside as the city streets fill with monsters. The only ones who can combat these creatures are very special girls with the power to transform into Magical Girls!
Librarian’s Commentary:
I love the artstyle! Each character has a unique style with color symbolism abound!
This comic has a unique point of view for a Magical Girl plot. Instead of focusing on the leader of the group and her struggles we get to follow the person of the group who often played as the support for the team!
I see so much character development already in the works as well as so much potential for more as the comic continues. It is going to be so interesting watching Undine grow as both a magical girl and a person as well as her influence on the others in her life!
I’m trying not to give too much away but the main twist to this story… it hits home for me big time. As someone who has had important people in their life and was left with a lot of regret, I empathize with how Undine is coping. It will be very interesting to watch as we see her interact with that topic overtime.

Summary:
This comic is an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It is set in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Librarian’s Commentary:
The fact that’s it’s a gay retelling of a classic lovestory makes me swoon~ I genuinely wish I had a larger list of media that does it.
The fact that the creators take turns creating the pages and use different pallets to signify their work is a really neat idea. Very original and very fun concept!
So far this is my favorite expression in this comic so far
I will admit, it’s easier to read this comic at least knowing the plot of Pride and Prejudice first. That’s honestly often a problem with re-adaptions of stories in my experience. However, if you do know the plot you will absolutely have fun spotting the similarities and differences in this retelling!
Summary: Alex Sleeper thought that when he went to a concert for Fallen Empire, a smallish emo band, that he was just going to keep his friend company. He didn’t realize he’d wake up the next day having been marked as an Aztec rain god’s next sacrifice. The deity has an unexpected change of heart and seeks to keep Alex safe, while Alex develops confusing feelings of his own for the immortal. With any luck, and lots of devotion from the god himself, Alex may survive the next few days.
Librarian’s Commentary:
The artstyle is awesome! I kinda like how the hair isn’t lined like the rest of the art. It kinda makes the hair seem fluffier and more natural, if that makes sense.
Alex is so easily flustered and emotional I love him.
Timothy is cool and definitely has a lot of development potential in the future that I am going to love seeing!
I didn’t realize the Aztec god part of this comic when I was reading it so when that part got established I was like “Wait what?”. Definitely interested in seeing how the Gods aspect of this comic is developed!

This installment of webcomics of the week is dedicated to Makenzi Papasan, for inspiring me to get out of my comfort zone every once in a while, even in death.
If you enjoy any of these webcomics I encourage you to reblog this post or reblog their works. All of these wonderful creators deserve to have their stories seen and heard and you can help by just showing other people how amazing they are!
Hiya peeps! Welcome to day 3 of our reader discussion on magical girls in collaboration with Aradia! Todays Question:

All the questions for this week have been posted to the Webcomic Library Discord as well. If you’re interested in joining in on the discussion in a more direct way or are interested in meeting and learning from more folks in the community feel free to dm me for an invite. We’d love to have you!
